The Bluffton University men's soccer team notched a second straight shutout in a 2-0 victory on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. Bluffton improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Heartland Conference, while Earlham stayed winless at 0-12 and 0-5 in the HCAC.
The Bluffton University volleyball team dropped a four-setter at Anderson University on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. The Beavers fell to 9-14 overall and 1-3 in the Heartland Conference, while Anderson improved to 9-10 and 2-2 in the Heartland Conference.
Bluffton and Anderson traded a pair of 25-19 victories to open the evening before another 25-19 Anderson set put the home team up 2-1. Set four went past the breaking point and the Ravens came away victorious when they scored four of the final five points for the 27-25 clincher.
The visiting Bluffton volleyball team led two sets to one but eventually dropped a five-set thriller to local rival Allen East in the Northwest Conference regular season finale Tuesday evening, October 12.
The Lady Pirate record dropped to 13-8 overall with the defeat. They also finished 4-4 in the NWC (fifth place) with the difficult 25-21, 21-25, 9-25, 25-23, 15-9 loss.
AE improved to 17-4 and ended up 5-3 in the NWC with the comeback victory that landed them in fourth place, one spot ahead of the Pirates, in the final standings.
James "Jim" Ray Leiber, 64, passed away October 11, 2021 at Lima Memorial Health System. Jim was born December 2, 1956 in Bluffton to the late Donald and Lola (Dangler) Leiber.
John R. Watt, 52, passed away October 9, 2021 at his residence. John was born January 7, 1969 in Bluffton to William "Bill" and Judith (Wilch) Watt.
John graduated from Bluffton High School. He was an insulator for Union Hall #41. John enjoyed always being near the water, fishing on Lake Erie, his "big" campfires and his dog, Brutus. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals.
