The Bluffton High School golf team split a four-team Northwest Conference match Tuesday evening, September 7, at the Bluffton Golf Course.

The Pirates beat Delphos Jefferson easily 170-201, but lost a close match to NWC leader Lincolnview 163-170.

Delphos Jeff edged Ada 201-204, and the Bulldogs also fell to Lincolnview 163-204.

Lancer Isaac Gallmeier was match medalist with a round of 40, finishing just ahead of Pirate senior Kenny Lovett, who shot a 41.

Micah Minnig carded a 42, followed closely by teammates Jaden Coonfare (43) and Wes Brauen (44).

The visiting Bluffton volleyball team won a four-set non-league match at Arlington Tuesday night, September 7.

The Pirate girls improved to 4-2 after the 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 25-14 victory. The Lady Red Devils fell to 1-5 with the defeat.

Senior middle hitter Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with 26 kills and two blocks. Freshman middle Ayla Grandey knocked down a dozen kills. 

Bluffton setter Skyler Scoles passed out 50 assists. Senior Kylie Monday came up with 11 digs and served four aces. Senior libero Sophie Bricker added seven digs.

The visiting Bluffton boys soccer team shut out Ottoville 4-0 in a one-sided non-league match Tuesday night, September 7.

Bluffton improved to 4-1-1 with the victory. Ottoville fell to 4-1-1 after the shutout loss.

Jude Spallinger netted three goals and passed out an assist to pace the victors.

Spallinger scored the first goal at the 22:45 mark to put the Pirates ahead. Just 34 seconds later, he scored again on a pass from Kaden Basil.

Nolan Hoffman extended the lead to 3-0 with a goal off a Spallinger feed with 20:57 remaining to play.

The host Bluffton girls soccer team dominated Northwest Conference foe Crestview 10-1 Tuesday night, September 7, at Steinmetz Field.

The Lady Pirate kickers improved to 4-2 and 2-0 in the NWC after the lopsided league victory. The Lady Knights fell to 3-2 (0-1 NWC) with the defeat.

Allison Diller netted four goals to pace the offensive onslaught. Reagan Mittendorf and Jordan Schweingruber each tallied a pair of scores.

Schweingruber scored the first goal four minutes into the fray. Diller made it 2-0 with a goal in the 11th minute off a Sami Scoles assist. 

The following letter was issued in August 2021 by 17 Putnam County physicians and nurses, including several that practice in the Village of Bluffton.

Back to school time! We are celebrating the beginning of another school year in person. The question on many minds is whether or not masks are necessary in our schools. And politics aside, all of us, parents, school administrators and staff, grandparents, and all champions of children, have just one concern: What is best for the kids?
