Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce invites residents to lend a hand on Saturday, Nov. 10, for this year's Ream display set-up on the Bluffton Presbyterian Church lawn, according to Paula Scott, CEO.

"Helping with Blaze of Lights preparations is like being in the kitchen before a great family get-together. You become part of the tradition and you realize how much love, expertise, and effort goes into the celebration. If you love the Blaze, I hope you'll join us," said Scott.

Norma Sommer of Pinebrook, Bluffton, is the October's America In Bloom (AIB) Garden Of The Month recipient.

Norma's garden is a nicely balanced mix of annuals and perennials. She has chosen a lovely fall color palette with shades of orange, red, and yellow, with pops of purple and hot pink that really grabs the eye.

Norma's success as a gardener is particularly notable with regards to her ability to winter over mums. Her whimsical seasonal décor items complete the garden.

Bluffton

Tommy Jennings, 72, died Sept. 12, 2018, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center.  Tommy was born April 5, 1946 in Bluffton to the late D. Winston and Ruth (Watt) Jennings.  

Tommy graduated from Bluffton High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. 

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle; a son, Bradley; two grandsons, Derek (Aleshia) and Tyler; five great grandchildren, Kensington, Kolby, Jaden, Scarlett and Oliver; and a brother, Larry (Tricia).

Tommy was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Caitlin.

Transition Bluffton and University Sustainability Club invites community participation

Transition Bluffton and the Bluffton University Sustainability Club invite all Bluffton and surrounding residents to join in a nationwide event, “Unleashing the Collective Genius: Celebrating 10 years of Transition in the US.”  The Bluffton event will be held on Saturday, Oc. 27, in the Kreider Room of Marbeck Center, Bluffton University.

The group will celebrate with each other here in northwest Ohio and joining those from around the country in several recorded and live events.  Participants should feel free to join any or all of the festivities:

Men’s soccer

The Bluffton University men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Hanover College on Saturday, Oct. 13. Bluffton fell to 2-12 overall and 1-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Hanover stayed perfect with a 5-0 mark in the HCAC (8-5 overall).

As part of a Health Education series, Dr. Leah Eiden, Family Medicine Provider at Bluffton Primary Care will present a variety of ways to help keep you and your family healthy through the winter. All ages are welcome and there will be time for questions at the end.  This program is one in a series of programs offered through the BVHS Speakers Bureau.
