Prior to 1987 it was a farmer’s field. Then DTR arrived.
Larry Core, retired Bluffton village administrator, remembers it this way: “It was biggest thing that will ever happen in my life.”
“It” was the Village of Bluffton’s success in attracting what was DTR, and is today SumiRiko Ohio, manufacturer of vehicle engine mounts, which employees approximately 770 associates working three shifts.

Dr. Eric Seibert, professor of the Old Testament at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pa., will speak during Bluffton University’s Forum at 11 a.m. on Oct. 30 in Yoder Recital Hall. The title of his presentation is “Following the Nonviolent Way of Jesus: Why Christianity and Violence Don’t Mix.”
The professor will describe the church’s long and ugly history of violence and will call for Christians to promote peace instead.
Norman Beidler, 93, of Turlock, Calif., died on Sept. 19, 2018.
Norman was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Bluffton, Ohio, to parents Harvey and Minnie Beidler. He was a member of the 1939-40 Bluffton High School basketball team that advanced to the state basketball tournament.
He entered the Army shortly after graduating high school and served in Patton's 3rd Army, 249th Corps of Engineers in the European theatre of WWII from 1943-1945. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge.

Bluffton won the game 5-0 to advance to district play versus Continental at Kalida on Wednesday, Oct. 24, with a 5 p.m. kickoff.
First Mennonite Church Senior High Youth Fellowship members are selling fair trade, organic "Menno's Best" One Village Coffee as a fundraiser this year.
Dark, medium and decaf varieties are offered, in whole bean or ground. Each 12-ounce package coffee is $15. For each package sold, the youth group receives $6 and $1 is donated to Mennonite Central Committee’s peace and justice work.
Coffee orders are placed monthly through April, 2019.
