The Bluffton University baseball team saw two of its seniors named Second Team All-Heartland Conference when the 2019 post season hardware was handed out on Tuesday, May 14. Dante D'Andrea (Westerville/North) and Colin Gregory (Fremont/Clyde) made their marks on the record books en route to All-HCAC recognition. Junior Parker Reynolds (Avon) was named Honorable Mention All-HCAC by the conference coaches. 

The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve & Conservation Farm is hosting “Wildflowers & Feathered Wings” on Sunday, May 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Walk the trails with Naturalist Chad Carroll to look low for spring wildflowers and look up for birds who fly overhead. We may look somewhere in between ground and sky for nesting woodducks.

Light refreshments, including homemade cookies, will be available. The event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome as they support The Quarry Farm's educational programming.

Carey stops Pirates in District action

FINDLAY - Bluffton had its 19-game win streak ended by Carey 8-3 in Div. IV district semifinal softball action at Findlay's Marathon Diamonds Wednesday evening.

The top-seeded Lady Pirates end their season 20-2 with the defeat. Both of their losses came at the hands of Carey.

The third-seeded Lady Blue Devils improved to 19-5 and advance to the district finals vs. New Riegel or McComb Thursday, May 17 at Findlay.

Village has opening for a fiscal officer

West Elm Street project is one step closer to completion.

Hohenbrink Contractors will begin paving the street on Thursday - originally announced as Friday -  according to Bryan Lloyd, assistant village administrator.

He told the Icon that the contractor will apply the base course Thursday and that motorists should avoid West Elm Street to allow ccontractors to work quickly and safely.

Shyanne Mortimer and Arielle O'Neille, Bluffton HS seniors, made it clear that they are enrolling at Manchester University in Indiana in the fall. Last night's senior paint the street event resulted in many college logos and names painted in front of the high school. Watch for more photos on the Icon.

He plans to attend Xavier and major in accounting

Derek Swartzlander, Bluffton High School senior, is the May BHS student of the month.

He is a member of the BHS band, cross country team, track team, academic team and is in drama club. He attends St. Mary's Catholic Church.

In his spare time he likes to play the guitar and write. For post secondary options he took classes at Bluffton University including Calculus I, Accounting I and II.  He also took Introduction to Sociology from the University of Findlay. And, with Jamie Erford, he took College Writing. After graduation he will attend Xavier and major in Accounting.
