Laura Galley, a Bluffton University senior food and nutrition major, will  present “Nutrition Assessment of Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Hancock County, Indiana” during an 11 a.m. Forum on Tuesday, April 3, in the Reading Room of Musselman Library.

Galley, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., will discuss her departmental honors project including an assessment of the food quality at the soup kitchen where she worked as an intern during the summer of 2017. 

This event is free and open to the public.

Mercy Health announces that the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals annual awards program has named St. Rita’s Medical Center as among the highest performing hospitals in the nation.

In addition to being listed among the top large community hospitals, St. Rita’s was also named as an Everest Award winner, which is an honor given to hospitals that have achieved both the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years.

For 10 years she was on the Bluffton EMS

Amy Jean Doty, 60 of Bluffton, died March 21, 2018, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.  Amy was born Aug. 6, 1957, in Lima to the late Lewis and Margaret "Peggy" (Cook) Wilgus. On March 26, 1977, she married Thomas Doty and he survives.

Amy graduated from Spencerville High School.  She had been a secretary for First Mennonite Church in Bluffton from 1977 - 1983 and then was co-owner/operator of Doty's Auto Repair in Bluffton from 1983 - present. 

She was a member of the Bluffton EMS for 10 years. 

Even though the sign reads "Softball scrimmage at Wapakoneta" the game is "snowed out." Jack Frost apparently has not been notified that spring is here. Several inches of snow fell here starting in the evening of the first day of spring. Bluffton school was cancelled.

Bluffton Boy Scouts from Troop 256 and one Cub Scout collected items for the Bluffton Food Pantry during "Scouting for Food" earlier this month, according to Victoria Zeits, assistant scoutmaster of troop 256.

Nearly 2,150 items were collected from the community for the pantry.

After collecting the bags, the Scouts delivered and sorted the items. There were over 23 participants (scout youth, scout adults, and scout family members).

 

Honorees are community "unsung heros"

Lynda Best of Bluffton is one of eight winners of this year’s Jefferson Awards from Allen County.

Locally the awards are presented by the Lima News, Your Hometown Stations, the United Way of Greater Lima and Husky Energy.

One of the eight Allen County winners will be chosen March 27 to attend the national Jefferson Awards banquet, held in Washington, D.C.

Jefferson Awards are given to local unsung heroes alongside national figures.  The mission of the awards is to power others to have maximum impact on the things they care about most.
