Wednesday, Feb. 14, marks the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. Several local congregations will hold Ash Wednesday services. The imposition of ashes will be offered as well as communion.That list follows:

• Bluffton Presbyterian, 7 p.m.
• English Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.
• First Mennonite Church, 8 p.m.
• St. John's and Emmanual United Church of Christ
   (service at Emmanuel's UCC, 6 p.m.)
• St. Mary's Catholic Church, noon
• Trinity Lutheran, Jenera, 7 p.m.

 

 

Icon viewers interested in developing a winter workout routine can get help from Bluffton Family Recreation.

Matt Wannemacher, personal trainer, is available for BFR members in a free consultant basis to help develop a workout plan.

“We will talk about each individual’s goals, where the person is at the moment exercise-wise, and where the person wants to be,” he said.

The workout plan will help the BFR member get started. Wannemacher, a BFR staff member, is always available to answer questions.

When it closes or opens later in the morning

Bluffton Family Recreation, 2015 Snider Road, follows winter storm level indicators in determining when it closes due to the weather.

Here's the BFR weather closure policy:
• Level 1 - BFR opens at 8 a.m. - and all classes are cancelled.
• Level 2 - BFR opens at 10 a.m.
• Level 3 - BFR is closed

Eric, when you aren't coaching basketball, what do you do?
I work very hard for Coca-Cola.

When you attended Bluffton High School what sports did you play?
I played football, basketball and baseball at Bluffton.

How many hours a week might you average in your coaching duties during the season?
25-30 hours.

A reception for the Bluffton University art exhibit featuring three Goshen College art professors will be held 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. The exhibit runs to Feb. 23 and includes work from Randy Horst, professor of art, Merrill Krabill, professor of art and John Mishler, associate professor of art. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. Gallery Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

And the menu is Italian

Jeanne Previte announced on Facebook that Friday, Feb. 9, is her "retirement night" from Jeanne's Kitchen, 112 Vine St., Bluffton.

The evening's menu is appropriately Italian.

"We will have Italian antipasto appetizers, Italian wedding soup, Italian vegetable
salad, lasagna or cheese ravioli, Pete's sausage peppers and onions and home dessert," she said.

Dinner hours are 5 to 7:30 p.m. Reservations are suggested by calling 419-234-8650.
