FROM ADA ICON - Hardin County Pullers third annual Fall Brawl and The first-ever Sled Bandits Sled Pull will be held Friday and Saturday at Ada War Memorial Park. Admission is $15.
The Sled Bandits will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Pullers will run at noon on Saturday. For the Pullers the gates open at 9 a.m. with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Bluffton University will host an author program for Dr. Hamid Rafizadeh, professor of business, at 4 p.m. on Oct. 18 in the Musselman Library’s Reading Room.
Rafizadeh has written a number of books including “The Choice Maker,” “The Sucker Punch of Sharing,” “The First Rung,” The Unexpected Unseen,” and “Here Comes the Watchman.” During his presentation, he will give an overview of each book, some of which are written in a scholarly format while the others novel format.
Bluffton elementary school is one of only 16 schools in Ohio to receive a National Blue Ribbon Award, presented by the U.S. Department of Education, according to Greg Denecker, Bluffton superintendent.
Only 349 schools (300 public, 49 private) nationwide received the award out of 130,000 schools in the United States.
The award is for Exemplary High Performing achievement on assessments.
Who knew fresh fruits and vegetables could be so exciting? Joshua Becasen, a dietetic intern at Bluffton University, did.
After teaching a short lesson on the differences between fruits and vegetables, Becasen started a chant at Freedom Elementary. Soon the words “Crave the FAV, Crave the FAV” filled the cafeteria. The chant finalized the kickoff of a nutrition education program that promotes the “FAV” or Fruits and Vegetables.

Roxanne Williams, director of corporate quality and patient safety at Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS), has recently become a certified professional in healthcare quality (CPHQ). A CPHQ is an individual who has passed an accreditation examination developed by the National Association of Healthcare Quality.
Becoming a CPHQ means Williams demonstrates competent knowledge and understanding of program development and management, along with quality improvement concepts and other quality-related skills. Only approximately 11,000 professionals have received this certification.
