Aug. 21 Transition Bluffton program

Transition Bluffton presents an informative session on the current state and the future of recycling in the Village of Bluffton.

Liz Gordon-Hancock, a writer with the Bluffton Icon, will present information from her recent series of articles for the local on-line newspaper. The Executive Director of  North Central Ohio Waste Management, Dennis Baker, will talk about the future of recycling and how it will affect us, followed by a question and answer session.

The Allen County Fair runs from Friday, Aug. 17, through Saturday, Aug. 25. Many Bluffton area persons are involved in the fair.

2,500-square-foot area dedicated to exercise and fitness activities

Mercy Health Fitness Studio opened today (Aug. 16) inside Bluffton Family Recreation, 215 Snider Road.

The 2,500-square-foot studio is in the upper level, the former mezzanine area, of BFR. Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director, said that’s Mercy Health’s gift of $10,000 enabled the fitness studio to be realized.

Taryn Shaw checks the elementary class lists on the school door. She will be a second grader. Her brother, standing beside her, isn't in school yet. The posting of class lists is one of the most significant events in Bluffton for elementary-age youth.

Debra Stockford, the cake queen, opens The Frosting Studio

Viewers are invited to an open house from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 20. You may check out cake decorating albums, have refreshments and learn about decorating class options.

You can now decorate your cake and eat it, too, thanks to Debra Stockford “the cake queen.”

Stockford of Pandora will open The Frosting Studio in Tommy’s Plaza, 142 E. Jefferson St., Bluffton, with a Monday evening open house.

There she will offer cake-decorating classes for all skill levels.

"Urge" open to 7th to 12th graders

Bethel Church of Christ, 4041 County Road 304, Ada, holds a  back-to-school “Urge” event for 7th graders through high school seniors and the public, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, at the church.

The event’s focus, according to sponsors, is to encourage students to do well in the upcoming school year and to urge them to be who God wants them to be in their schools.
