Art and poetry focus on transformation toward peace

Take a gun. Hammer it into a plowshare. Call it art.

That’s the premise of “From Swords to Plowshares: Our Process of Transformation,” art and poetry exhibit at Albrecht Gallery in the Sauder Art Center at Bluffton University.

The exhibit is open Thursdays through Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. now July 30.

It is organized in response to guns into garden tools program held on campus during the Central District Conference MCUSA annual meeting on June 22.

2 to 10 p.m., with a band from 6 to 9 p.m.

Southgate Lanes second summer fest’ of the summer is Saturday, according to Derek Dukes.

The fest, from 2 to 10 p.m., takes place in the bowling alley parking lot, 9700 Dixie Highway.

Activities include corn hole and other outdoor games. A band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. This month’s fest’ benefits Bluffton Diamond Sports.

“All proceeds from Saturday above our costs go to Diamonds Sports,” said Dukes.

The final summer fest is Saturday, Aug. 19, and it benefits the Bluffton Fire Department.

Several highways in northwest Ohio continue to be closed or monitored due to high water. Highways listed are either currently closed or affected, but closed areas on each route will vary as flood levels change.
