Bluffton HS softball team Lady Pirate catcher, Katie Prater, hits it out of the park for a home run, with 2 RBI's in the 4th inning.

The Bluffton Lady Pirates won their opening softball game against visiting McComb 6-2 earlier this week. Katie Prater had a home run, with 2 RBI's, Averey Rumor had two runs, and Jazymynn Wilson, Abbie Parkins and Grace Nickels all scored 1. (Rae Staton photo)

Tom Downey, P.E., of Bluffton, was presented with his Professional Engineering License at a statehouse ceremony hosted by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors and the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE).

Downey, a graduate of Bluffton High School, earned both his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering technology and his master of science in engineering from the University of Toledo. He is employed as an engineer at Hawthorn Seving, Inc.

Bluffton High School’s baseball team defeated Upper Scioto Valley 15-3 in Bluffton earlier this week.

Brice Rayle was the winning pitcher. Braden Edwards collected a single and 2 RBIs, Colin Phillips hit 1 single and 1 home run, Matt Bowden had 2 singles and Dakota Bricker 1 double.

Bluffton is 1-1 overall.

Nancy Steinecker, an Allen County Master Gardener volunteer, will present a program on propagation from plant cuttings.

The program is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, in the lower level of the Bluffton Public Library. The program is sponsored by the Gardeners of the Bluffton Pandora Area and is open to the public.
