Four Hardin County departments respond to the blaze

FROM ADA ICON - Dennis "Doc" Garbrecht of Ada was rushed to the hospital, then life-flighted to Columbus, with non life-threatening injuries following a fire at his home in Ada on Thursday morning.

He is being treated for burns and smoke inhalation. His wife, Helen "Peg" Garbrecht, was uninjured.

Monty Siekerman of Ada was recently named editor of the Ada Icon, sister publication to the Bluffton Icon.

Monty, who has been reporting and taking photographs for the Ada Icon for the past two years, joins other Ada residents in furnishing more than 40 local articles a week for viewers.

Amy Eddings reports and provides photos, Ken Collins takes feature photos, Cort Reynolds keeps readers up-to-date on local school sports, and Darlene Bowers writes features about local people and creates Ada Happenings, a caledar of Ada events.

The following births are reported in December from Bluffton Hospital.

Area singers invited to participate

Rehearsals for Bluffton University’s Masterworks performance of Vivaldi’s “Gloria” will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 10, in the Gilliom Room of Mosiman Hall on campus.

Anyone interested in singing, from high school students to adults, is invited to join the chorus. There is no cost to participate and scores will be provided.

Bluffton University’s Grace Albrecht Gallery will host “Twee Kunstenaars” by Tom Duimstra and Michael Peoples.

Opening Jan. 8, the exhibit is free and open to the public through Jan. 27. Gallery hours in the Sauder Visual Arts Center are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A reception for the artists will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. 

“Twee Kunstenaars” is Dutch for two artists. The works by Duimstra and Peoples reimagine common, everyday objects in order to investigate the ways in which value and meaning are created and assigned. 

The Pandora United Methodist Church will host a free community meal on Wednesday, Jan.25,  from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington St.,

The meal this month is provided by The 7 O’clock Flock. The menu is grilled cheese sandwich, tomato soup, relishes, dessert and beverage.
