Bluffton's trick-or-treat night is Thursday, Oct. 29, according to Judy Augsburger, mayor.

Hours are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. (Village water bills incorrectly stated the hours lasting until 8:30 p.m.)

 

Bluffton Public Library teen volunteers invite Icon viewers to the haunted library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, during Bluffton's trick-or-treat hours.

According to Esther Birkey, youth services coordinator, "There will be lots to do on Thursday evening. Refreshments and crafts will be available on the Main Floor and Halloween carnival games in the Richland Room on the lower level.

A volunteer group interested in helping Bluffton people in need is organizing this fall.

The group is “Bluffton Good Samaritan Women’s Group,” according to Andrea Dailey. Its purpose is to serve people in need who live in Bluffton and the greater Bluffton community.

“We are here to connect anyone in need in the community with those willing to help,” Dailey told The Icon. 

Mary Lou Vercler, 87, died Oct. 27, 2015, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton after a short illness.

She was born May 12, 1928, on a farm near Kouts, Ind., to the late Alpha and Martha (Zook) Baughman. After graduating from Kouts High School, she attended Ball State University for one year then graduated from Bethel College, Kansas, in 1950 with a degree in English and History. 

She then moved to Bloomington/Normal, Ill., where she was a high school teacher.  It was there she met and subsequently married J. Norman Vercler, a hospital medical technician on Dec. 26, 1951.

Bluffton University will host the OHSAA Division II District volleyball semifinals tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 27) in the Sommer Center.

6:15 p.m. - Van Wert vs. St. Marys

8 p.m. - Celina vs. Wapakoneta

Bluffton will also host the finals between tonight's winners at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29.
