Here's a a familar scene of Bluffton in a not-so-familiar time frame. It's the town hall clock tower photographed at late night from The Black Lab at the corner of Main and Vine. Bluffton University first-year student Venessa Owsley took the photo. She is in a photojournalism class at Bluffton. The assignment was to take a photo of your hometown.

Naturally, you all know that I just now said: "How goes it! There once was yet another bird." (This means that either things are changing or bad weather is approaching.)

Whatever its meaning all Icon viewers - of Swiss descent or otherwise are invited to come speak the Swiss dialect at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the Family Room at Maple Crest, Bluffton.

Becky Lynn Burns-Reed, 57, died at 4:08 p.m.Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at Mt. Carmel St. Ann's Medical Center, Westerville.

she was born April 29, 1957 in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late A. Chester and Patricia Ann (Woods) Burns. On March 15, 1997, she married Gary L. Reed, who survives in Ada.

She was a 1975 graduate of Ada High School. She had attended Ohio Northern University, and received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Middle Tennessee State University, and received her nursing degree from Owens Community College in Findlay.

Dr. Jo Ellyn Peterson, an associate professor of education at Bluffton University, will discuss her 2013-14 sabbatical in Guatemala during a campus colloquium on Friday, Oct. 31.

The presentation, titled “Sabbatical in Guatemala: Developing Early Intervention Services in the Developing World,” will begin at 4 p.m. in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Bluffton’s Centennial Hall. It is free and open to the public.

First United Methodist Church, 116 N. Church St., will hold an Election Day lunch and dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 4. 

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Homemade, soups, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and beverages will be available. All items will be priced individually.

Dinner will be served from 4:30-7 p.m. and will include baked steak, mashed potatoes, vegetable, roll, dessert, and beverage. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children 10 and over.

Carryout is available for both meals.

Bluffton University’s production of Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “The Skin of Our Teeth” opens this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in College Hall’s Ramseyer Auditorium.

In this scene, family maid Sabina, played by Brianna Lugibihl (right), a junior from Gomer, Ohio, asks her employers, Mr. and Mrs. Antrobus (Joe Wilson, a senior from Covington, Ohio, and Rebecca Juliana, a junior from Mechanicsburg, Pa.), for money to go to the movies.

The show will also be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
