Seniors Matthew McCoy of Archbold, and Gabrielle De La Cruz of Wauseon, were crowned Bluffton University’s Homecoming king and queen at halftime of the annual Homecoming football game on Oct. 4.
Other seniors in the Homecoming court were David Henderson of Lima; Trustworthy Ndlovu of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe; Jeremy Amstutz of White Pigeon, Mich.; and Megan Bontrager of Goshen, Ind.
Robert L. Weyer, 86, died at 8:05 p.m. Oct. 7, 2014, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.
He was born May 11, 1928, in Vaughnsville to the late Lewis and Bessie (Briggs) Weyer. On April 22, 1950, he married Catherine Bowsher Weyer and she survives.
He had worked as a carpenter at Reichenbach Lumber, Bluffton, Triplett Corp., Bluffton, American Electric Power, for the AC & Y Railroad and Fett Hardware.
Bluffton University running back Eric Fox (Brunswick) earned the HCAC Play of the Week for week 5. The senior claimed the title after voting took place on the HCAC social media outlets of Facebook and Twitter.
Fox's winning play was a six-yard touchdown reception on fourth and goal late in the first quarter of Bluffton's 20-14 win over Hanover. He hauled in the shoestring catch just inside the 10-yard line and avoided two defenders with his leap to paydirt.
Regina T. Shumaker, 102 Magnolia Lane, Bluffton, has opened a business handling residential snow control and yard maintenance. The business, Fyrwomyn’s Service, LLC, reflects Shumaker’s background as a retired fire fighter and EMT.
“I saw a need for snow control and yard maintenance in Bluffton,” she said, after relocating here in 2012 to take care of her ailing mother.
