Bluffton woman opens residential snow control and yard maintenance business
Regina T. Shumaker, 102 Magnolia Lane, Bluffton, has opened a business handling residential snow control and yard maintenance. The business, Fyrwomyn’s Service, LLC, reflects Shumaker’s background as a retired fire fighter and EMT.
“I saw a need for snow control and yard maintenance in Bluffton,” she said, after relocating here in 2012 to take care of her ailing mother.
Persons wanting to contract for her services may contact her at 419-560-2348 or connect with her on Facebook at www.facebook.com/fyrwomyn. Her Facebook page is filled with tips to prepare for winter.
Although she has only lived here since 2012, her connection to Bluffton extends into the past.
Raised in Madison, Ohio, she is the daughter of Ann Shumaker and the late Rutherford Shumaker, both Bluffton College graduates.
“While growing up, I spent time at my aunt and uncle, Joan and Sam Diller. I have fond memories of riding bikes at the college and swimming in the Buckeye,” she said.
In 1984 Shumaker joined the fire service as a firefighter paramedic, first with Fairport Harbor Fire Department and then with Concord Township Fire Department, both in Lake County, Ohio.
She received the Lake County Blue Coats Award, Jorge Media Distinguished Service Award in 1998 for actions at a structure fire for rescuing a handicapped couple trapped in a burning house.
She is the first-ever recipient of the Concord Township Fire Department Meritorious Award for actions above and beyond the call of duty for the same structure fire.
In 1989, she started teaching EMT-Basic at Auburn Career Center. She also taught at Tri-Rivers Career Center, Marion.
In 2002, she left Lake County to accept the position as public safety coordinator at Tri-Rivers Career Center. In 2003, she retired from fire fighting.
