Bluffton University to hold children's auditions for 'Music Man'
Children ages 8-14 with interests in singing, acting and dancing are invited to audition for Bluffton University's 2012 May Day musical, "The Music Man." Auditions will be held from 6:15-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in the Gilliom Room of Bluffton's Mosiman Hall.
Children are sought for the chorus and "boys' band," as well as for the roles of Winthrop (age 9 and speaks with a lisp) and Amaryllis (age 8). Boys auditioning to play Winthrop, and girls to play Amaryllis, may want to familiarize themselves with the songs "Gary, Indiana" and "Goodnight, My Someone," respectively.
Music will be available in an envelope outside the music department office in Mosiman Hall, and the directors will teach the songs to interested children before auditions, at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 in 1 Mosiman Hall.
Performances are at 8 p.m. May 3, 4 and 5. Children should be available for about one rehearsal per week during March and April, with others possible on Saturdays. During performance week, late-night rehearsals can be expected every evening. The rehearsal schedule will be developed after casting is complete.
