And now for a little gospel music history
Dr. Crystal Sellers, assistant professor of music, will present "From Congregational to Urban Crossover: The Faces and Sounds of Gospel Music," 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall as part of Bluffton University's Friday Colloquium Series. The event is free and open to the public.
Sellers' presentation will discuss gospel music and gospel singing from the creation of the style to the present. Many popular gospel composers and singers will be presented.
They will also be looked at in terms of how they have impacted the singing style and development of gospel music in conjunction with what was happening in African-American history during the time of Gospel music's creation. Her presentation will include recorded and live music.
