Genevieve Schroeder was a member of the BHS class of 1951
Genevieve A. “Jenny” Schroeder, Ph.D., 83 of Worthington died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She is preceded in death by parents, Albert Burkholder and Edith Welty. Jenny is survived by husband, Wayne E. Schroeder; daughters, Ann (Bernie) Driscoll and Kay (Mark) Sutton; grandchildren, Ryan, Kelsey, Tanner and Aly; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was an active member of Worthington United Methodist Church for 42 years.
Jenny graduated from Bluffton High School in the class of 1951, and from The Ohio State University with a B.Sc., M.Sc. and received her Ph.D. in 1978.
She was an educator, teaching home economics at the high school and college levels; working with the State of Ohio Department of Education; as a radio editor with The Ohio State University Extension Service; and finally as an academic coordinator, advising at The Ohio State University for 20 years. She was a member and currently serving as Vice-President for the Americas of the International Federation of Home Economics IFHE and was an active member of American Association of Family and Consumer Science AAFCS and State Family and Consumer Science SFCS.
In addition to her professional career and affiliations she had a lifelong passion for early childhood education. She also spent 7 years (1962-1969) living and volunteering in India while Wayne was working with The Ohio State University.
Her funeral aervice was Feb. 16, at Worthington United Methodist Church with Rev. Cyndy Garn, officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: American Heart Association, 5455 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214 in memory of Jenny.
