Asbury takes down Men' Soccer 9-1 in home opener
September 6, 2017
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team and its fans saw a little bit of everything with regards to the weather as Asbury College posted a 9-1 win over the Beavers at their home opener. Clouds, rain, cold, wind and finally with the match complete, the sun came out to cap off the home opener for Bluffton on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
With both teams deadlocked at 0-0 through 15 minutes it looked like a stalemate was in the offing. However, three Asbury tallies in less than five minutes helped the visitors to a 4-0 lead at the break.
Senior Blake Hershberger (Canton/McKinley) capitalized on a feed from Ezekiel Davis (Columbus/Columbus Downtown) coming down the right side, dialing up his second collegiate score as a Beaver early in period two. The Eagles followed up with four more scores en route to their 9-1 victory at the Sears Complex.
Asbury fired 32 shots, compared to nine for the home team. Both teams finished with five corner kicks while the Eagles were whistled for four more fouls (14-10).
Bluffton will be back in action for the second straight Sunday when the Beavers host Edgewood at 2 p.m. on Sept. 10. Come out and make some noise for your Beavers!
