Pirate girls win 10th straight; stop C-R 2-1

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton girls soccer team got off to a first half lead and made it stand up in a 2-1 win over local non-league rival Cory-Rawson Thursday night at Steinmetz Field.
Their 10th straight win lifted the Pirate girls record to 11-2-1 overall. C-R dropped to 7-7 with the defeat.
Laykin Garmatter scored both Bluffton goals. She found the back of the net the first time 10:30 into the fray. Garmatter tallied again at the 37:52 mark to give the hosts a 2-0 intermission edge.
Reagan Mittendorf assisted on both Garmatter goals.
Cory-Rawson's Lanie Kempf scored with 5:44 remaining to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Hornet girls could get no closer.
It was Kempf's 10th goal, a Hornet program record for freshmen.
Libby McVetta and Jocelyn Peterson assisted on her goal.
Bluffton fired off 31 shots, 12 of which were on target. C-R put four of its five shots on goal. The Pirates compiled four corner kicks to three by the Hornets.
Bluffton keeper Julia Mehaffie made three saves, while Cory goalkeeper Katie Bish was credited with 10 stops.
The Pirates (6-0 NWC) host Paulding Monday, October 12 at 7 p.m.
