Lady Pirates blank Kalida
Playing at home, the Bluffton girls soccer team stymied Kalida 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Steinmetz Field.
The Pirate girls improved to 10-2-1 overall with the decisive non-league win. Bluffton has posted an 8-0-1 record in its last nine matches.
Kalida dropped to 4-6-2 with the shutout loss.
Senior Reagan Mittendorf scored in the fourth and 17th minutes to shoot Bluffton to an early 2-0 lead, and they were never threatened.
Ella Armstrong assisted on the first goal, while Makayla Schweingruber dealt the helper on the second score.
Junior Sami Scoles found the back of the net in the 39th minute to build the Bluffton lead to 3-0 at intermission. Allison Diller assisted on the score.
Jasi Crawfis tallied the fourth goal just under six minutes into the second half on a Scoles pass.
Diller then made it 5-0 a minute later off a Riley Eachus assist,
Pirate Marley Kindle netted an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute to propel the final margin to six.
The Pirate offense mustered 22 shots, 14 of which were on goal. Kalida got off seven shots, three of which were on target but were all stopped.
Pirate junior keeper Julia Mehaffie made three saves in goal. The Wildcat keeper was credited with eight stops.
Defending Northwest Conference champion Bluffton (4-0 NWC) hosts Columbus Grove (6-1-1, 3-0 NWC) in a showdown that will likely decide the league title Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 6:45 p.m.
