Pirate boys win 76-25 against C-R, advance to finals
The Bluffton High School boys varsity team rolled to a 32-point halftime lead and crushed visiting Cory-Rawson 76-25 in the semifinals of the McDonald's Holiday basketball tournament Wednesday night, December 29.
Balanced Bluffton drained 11 three-pointers in posting the win.
The Pirates will host Arlington (6-3) in the tournament finals Thursday at approximately 7 p.m.
Bluffton led C-R 20-7 after the opening stanza. They then poured it on with a 27-8 second period onslaught to build a commanding 47-15 intermission cushion.
The Pirates stymied C-R 18-4 in the third quarter, and won the final stanza 11-6.
Bluffton improved to 6-1 with their fifth straight victory. C-R fell to 2-8 with the lopsided defeat.
Trenton Donley led four Pirates in double figures with 17 points.
Teammates Kyler Kinn and Trey Boblitt each contributed 14 markers. Boblitt knocked down four treys, and Donley drained three triples.
Carson Soper added 12 points.
Bluffton drained 26 baskets, connecting on 15 two-pointers to go with the 11 treys. They hit the bottom of the net on 13 of 17 free throw attempts (76 percent).
Cory connected on 11 baskets, hitting 10 two-pointers and one triple. The visitors converted two of three charity stripe attempts (67 percent).
Bluffton committed just three turnovers, while Cory was guilty of 18 miscues.

Arlington defeated Continental 40-29 in the first semifinal contest. Continental (2-8) faces Cory in the third-place game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
