"Shedding Some Light on Kiln-Formed Glass: Hot & Cold, Hard & Fragile, Colorful & Clear" will be Gregg Luginbuhl's topic for a Bluffton University Colloquium at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Hester Lecture Hall in Sauder Visual Arts Center. The colloquium is free and open to the public.

Luginbuhl, professor and chair of art at Bluffton, has pursued a project on kiln-formed glass with the help of a Bluffton University Research Center (BURC) grant. As part of his project, he took classes on glass kiln-forming techniques at Bullseye Glass Co., a Portland, Ore., manufacturer of colored glass for art and architecture.

At the colloquium, Luginbuhl will discuss glass, various methods of making art with glass and, more specifically, his work with warm glass using fusing, slumping and casting techniques. He will also take his audience into the Grace Albrecht Gallery-where the art department faculty exhibition is showing through March 4-and talk about the glass work resulting from his BURC grant that is on display there.
