One seriously injured in Union Township crash

MEDIA RELEASE__On August 28, 2026, at approximately 3:34 a.m., the Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a commercial vehicle crash on IR 75 near milepost 144, Union Township, Hancock County. 

Cory C. Holzhauer, age 32, from Vermilion, Ohio, was southbound on IR 75 driving a 2011 Volvo semi. Mr. Holzhauer drove off the right side of the road, drove back onto the roadway, and overturned. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by HANCO EMS.

Lowayne E. Etzler, age 63, from Sandusky, Ohio was also southbound on IR 75 driving a 2025 Isuzu box truck. Mr. Etzler struck the Volvo’s trailer in the roadway. Mr. Etzler suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by life flight to Mercy Health, St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.   

The Volvo and the Isuzu both sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene by Flag City Towing. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, HANCO EMS, Southwestern Hancock Joint Fire District, and Flag City Towing. 

The crash remains under investigation.  

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always wear their seatbelt and to never drive distracted.
