Hannah Chappell-Dick, freshman, and the Eastern Mennonite University women's track and field team picked up one final honor from the 2012-13 athletic year, as each was awarded for academic work by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Lady Royals were one of 148 institutions to earn an All-Academic Team recognition. Eastern Mennonite had a team GPA of 3.10, just hitting the benchmark for team status.
A fall sports meeting for Bluffton High School athletes and their parents will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, in the BHS gym. The announcement was made by Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director.
A Bluffton-area u-12 fastpitch softball team with members from Bluffton and Ada and several other area communities, has qualified for the USSSA series of softball in Orlando, Fla. The series starts July 20.
The team is ranked second in USSSA power rankings in the Ohio North u12B division. The team has had success in tournaments in Kenton, Van Wert, Toledo Tune up, Beavercreek and the Ohio State Fast Pitch tournament.
For example, the team was runner up in Beavercreek and Kenton, champions in Van Wert, 10th in the Toledo Tune up (22 teams) and fifth at the Ohio State event.
BFR Sports and Fitness will host a Challenger British Soccer Camp July 29 to Aug. 2, according to Carole Enneking, director.
This international soccer program combines a strong emphasis on fundamental foot skills with an upbeat, positive camp environment. Challenger Camps are staffed by soccer players/coaches from the United Kingdom.
Campers (ages 4-16) may choose between morning and evening sessions (or combine both sessions for a full day experience).

Blanchard Valley Hospital Rehab & Sports Medicine and the Hancock Park District are sponsoring the 4th Annual Flirt with Dirt 5K Trail Run/Walk on Saturday, July 13 at Riverbend Recreational Area in Findlay.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., the trail race will start at 8:30 a.m. with the walk to immediately follow.
The course for the event is wood chipped, grass, and dirt trails with short stretches of asphalt throughout the park area. This is a USA Track & Field certified course and is an official 2013 Trail Runner Magazine Trophy Series Race.
