Abbey Miles earns "Outstanding of the Day" at state fair

Abbey Miles, daughter of James and Kathy Miles, earned Outstanding of the Day at the Ohio State Fair with her Purrfect Pets project.  She is a member of The Blue Ribbon Stock 4H Club.

"God bless the wheels" Aug. 18 at Trinity UMC

Trinity United Methodist Church, 2022 State Route 103, Bluffton, will hold a "God bless the wheels" event on Sunday, Aug. 18.

The outdoor blessing of the wheels begins at 11:30 a.m. following the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The wheel blessing includes motorcycles, bicycles, tricycles, antique cars and anything with wheels.

There will be a bouncy house train rides for the kids, a kids' pedal tractor pull and
 food and refreshments.

Riley Creek UMC celebrates addition completion on Aug. 18

The Riley Creek United Methodist Church, 7102 Road M, Ottawa, will celebrate a addition to its historic country church on Sunday, Aug. 18.

There will be a celebration and recognition service at 4 p.m. and a picnic potluck at 6 p.m.

This church has been one room, without plumbing or running water since1882. The congregation broke ground for the addition in October. 

The addition includes  restrooms, a kitchen, air conditioning, a utility room and a fellowship hall.

According to Chrissy Lugibihl, store manager, “Pre-sale tickets will be on sale from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 3 p.m. in front of the current Et Cetera Shop, 111 S. Main St., on Wednesday, Aug. 21.”

John George retired this year after teaching 37 years

Chemistry teacher and academic team coach at BHS; was "town crier" during Blaze of Lights

Bluffton resident, John Edward George, 61, retired Bluffton HS chemistry teacher and Blaze of Lights "town crier," died Aug. 12, 2019, at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born Nov. 21, 1957, to Charles and Joan (Hite) George. 

John graduated from Liberty Union High School where he was class president and valedictorian, received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and his master’s degree from Ohio State University.
