Beavers new football coach has lots of Heartland Athletic Collegiate Conference experience

Bluffton University has named Denny Dorrel as its new head football coach.

Dorrel (rhymes with “coral”), the 13th head coach in Bluffton football history, replaces Tyson Veidt, who resigned after six seasons to become the linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Toledo.

May 6 school levy renewal crucial to maintaining our educational system

On May 6, the Bluffton Exempted Village School District asks for your continued support of the renewal of the existing levy with an increase to the same millage rate as 1999. Below is a quick overview of the renewal levy and its purpose:

We are asking for your vote of support on May 6, 2014, for the same millage rate that was passed in 1999 at 4.9 mills. 

Facts:
   · The levy was originally passed in November, 1999, at 4.9 mills generating $466,000.

Here's Friday and Saturday's dinner at Mustard Seed Cafe

Mustard Seed Café, 562 N. Main Street, Bluffton, is open 5-8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings with a full menu which includes 7 appetizers, 8 main course items, soups, salads and house-baked desserts.  Beer and beer cocktails are available.

Race: it’s not easy to just ‘get over it’

After a Florida jury acquitted George Zimmerman last July of the murder of black teenager Trayvon Martin, “I heard many people say that people of color should just get over issues of race and move on,” Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle recalls.

But the sentiment had the opposite effect on Battle, a Bluffton University music faculty member who subsequently committed to being Bluffton’s 2013-14 civic engagement scholar, leading a yearlong, campuswide conversation about the theme of “Race and Ethnicity in America.”

Over 135 volunteers contribute over 7,000 hours of service to MHCO

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) celebrate National Volunteers Week (April 6-12) early as volunteers and staff gathered at Ebenezer Mennonite Church on March 31. 

Over 135 volunteers serving Mennonite Memorial Home, Maple Crest Senior Living Village, Willow Ridge and Hilty Home enjoyed a meal, fellowship and entertainment.

This annual event is an opportunity to say “thank you” to the hundreds of volunteers who provide exceptional service to the elders living at all four MHCO communities. In 2013, over 350 volunteers contributed over 7,000 hours of service.
