Next cars and coffee event Saturday

The next Bluffton Cars and Coffee event is Saturday, Aug. 24, at Masterpiece Signs, 902 N. Main St.

The event is an “informal gathering for enthusiasts and their cars," said Tim Boutwell. The monthly cars and coffee event continues through October. It is always held on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Each event is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the following Saturdays:  Aug. 24, Sept. 28 and Oct. 26.

Final day to swim is Thursday

The Bluffton Community Swimming Pool will close for the season this week.

Swimming is available, depending if there are enough swimmers, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 20-21-22, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Girls' tennis: Bluffton defeats Kenton 4-1

Number 1 singles Erin Hotmire improves to 2-1

KENTON - The Bluffton girls tennis team won its first match of the season convincingly at Kenton Thursday by a 4-1 score.

The victory lifted the Lady Pirate record to 1-2. All four Bluffton victories came in straight sets, including wins in all three singles matches.

Senior Erin Hotmire improved her record to 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles over Kenton's Mykaela Schriber.

Andy Kuhl 1971 - 2019

Andy K. Kuhl of Pickerington, Ohio, died on Aug. 15, 2019, after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife, Janeen, sons, Ian and Gideon, mother, Gertrud Kuhl, and father- and mother-in-law, Dwight and Trella Kauffman, formerly of Bluffton, now of Harrisonburg, Va.

Andy was born in Ephrata, Penn., March 15, 1971. He grew up in Terre Hill. His older brother, Chris, died in 1993. His father, David, died in 2012. His mother now lives in West Liberty, Ohio. Andy’s aunts, Anne Kuhl and Nancy Kuhl, live in Arizona. His cousins, Michael, and wife Gazala Hays, live in Colorado.

24/7 ER orthopedic surgical services coverage

Now offered at Bluffton Hospital

Bluffton Hospital, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, is now offering 24/7 orthopedic surgical services coverage for the emergency room.

Additionally, inpatient and outpatient orthopedic services are also available on the main campus, located at 139 Garau St.

Orthopedic surgical services offered at Bluffton Hospital will include shoulder, hand, elbow, hip, knee, and foot and ankle surgeries.

“Bluffton Hospital has a strong commitment to those we serve,” said Nicole Keuneke, director of operations at Bluffton Hospital.

More than 1,225 students anticipated this school year

General fund carry-over balance of just over $6.1 million

Bluffton school enrollment is anticipated at more than 1,225, the largest enrollment here in 20 years. That fact, plus an update the school year, which begins Monday, Aug. 26, are in the summer school newsletter, attached at the bottom of this story.

We are excited to welcome over 1,225 students into our district on the first day of school. This is our largest district enrollment since 1999-2000.
