University names vice president for fiscal affairs

Arthur Woodruff graduate of Allen East, Grace College and Indiana Wesleyan

Arthur Woodruff has been appointed as Bluffton University’s vice president for fiscal affairs. Woodruff, who is originally from the Lima area, started his role at Bluffton on Jan. 2.

As a member of the President’s Cabinet and the university’s chief fiscal officer, Woodruff will provide leadership, oversight and stewardship for all aspects of Bluffton's financial resources, as well as oversee business services, human resources and campus facilities and grounds.

Bluffton fire department averaged 1 call every 3 days in 2019

24 more runs last year than in 2018

Bluffton’s fire department experienced 24 more runs in 2019 than the previous year, according to Jon Kinn, fire chief.

The chart at the bottom of this story shows calls by type and by month.

The 2019 department’s runs reached an average of one call every three days. Total calls reached 119 (95 in 2018). 

The highest number of calls were 33 from alarms, followed by 27 miscellaneous calls, which included service calls, power lines down, weather watches, investigations and dispatched with no incident found.

Well deserved!

These well-deserved patches will soon adorn several Bluffton High School athletes' letter jackets. Patches for NWC golf champs and boys' soccer state Division III runners-up arrived today at Bluffton High School. The next photo in this series shows the soccer trophy now on display in the school trophy case.

Riley Creek UMC dedicates addition on Jan. 19

Riley Creek United Methodist Church, 7102 Road 7L, Ottawa, will hold a dedication of a new addition at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, according to Rev. Duane Kemerley, pastor.

A potluck in the new Fellowship Hall precedes the service at noon.

Public meetings for the Village for January

Several committee meetings are scheduled for this month. They are:

  • Ordinance Committee – Thursday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m. 
  • Parks & Recreation Committee – Wednesday, January 22 at noon.
  • Streets & Alleys Committee – Wednesday, January, 22 at 5:30 p.m. 
  • Safety Services Committee – Monday, January 27 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Council Meeting – Monday, January 27 at 7 p.m.

These meetings are open to the public and are held at the Village’s town hall.

Irwin Real Estate opens Main Street Bluffton office

Kathryn Basinger is the local realtor with the company

Irwin Real Estate has opened an office in Bluffton, according to Teresa Irwin, principal broker with the company.

Kathryn Basinger is the realtor in the Bluffton branch, located at 138 N. Main St.

She said that she can handle residential, commercial, business and land listings. Office hours are Mondays to Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment. The Bluffton office phone is 419-957-2637.

Teresa Irwin established Irwin Real Estate in 2001. Today it has offices in Columbus Grove, Ottawa and now Bluffton.
