SumiRiko volunteers

Associates from SumiRiko Ohio, Bluffton, spent last Friday mulching the playground area at the village park. The volunteers participated as part of Honda's fourth annual Team Honda Week of Service. During the week, associates, dealers and suppliers conducted volunteer activities in their communities. In this photo, Keah Egbert brings a load of mulch to the playgrounds. Elizabeth Luersman: "Bluffton is really good at preparing education majors to be in the classroom.”

Elizabeth Luersman, a 2019 Bluffton University graduate, followed her big sister to Bluffton and now she’s following her into the professional world of teaching, but along the way, Luersman forged her own path and took advantage of all the opportunities available at Bluffton.

In the fall, she will start her journey as an art teacher at Lima Central Catholic High School.  

“I feel prepared to be a teacher,” said Luersman, an art education major from Ottoville, Ohio. “Bluffton is really good at preparing education majors to be in the classroom.”

Weight lifting 101 for adults at BFR

By popular demand, Bluffton Family Recreation created Weight Lifting 101 for adults this summer, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

The class, which involves a weightroom workout,  is instructed by Coral Lamb, BFR fitness coach.

Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. June 25 to July 18. The class is free for BFR members and $40 for non-members.

Kurt Beach was captain of Cory-Rawson's 1968 unbeaten, unscored on football team

J. Kurt Beach, 68, of North Baltimore died Thursday June 13, 2019.

He was born on June 4, 1951, to the late John J. Beach and Helen A. Beach (Emans) in Bluffton, Ohio. He would marry Rebecca S. (Huss) King in May 1970. They had two sons; Jeffery K. (Nicole) Beach of Forest, and preceded in death by their infant son, Jeremy J. Beach on Nov. 20, 1974.

We all know where Neil Armstrong was – standing on the moon.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Neil Armstrong moon landing, the Icon invites viewers to submit accounts of where they were, and what they remember about the event.
