Apollo board meets Aug. 31

Apollo Career Center board of education will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31. Bluffton's representative on the board is Brad Fruchey.

Bluffton student wins binational peace oratory contest

Bluffton University student Emily Huxman, from Waterloo, Ontario, has won this year’s binational C. Henry Smith Oratorical Contest.

Her first-place effort earned Huxman, now a Bluffton junior, a $300 cash prize and a scholarship of up to $500 to attend a peace-related conference or seminar.

In the event, which is open to students in Mennonite and Brethren in Christ colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, participants present speeches that apply the Christian peace position to contemporary concerns.

Boys' soccer: Tristan Smucker scores three times in win over Ottoville

A Tristan Smucker hat trick was significant in Bluffton High School boys' soccer win over Ottovile by a 4-0 score on Aug. 29. Bluffton controlled the game from start to finish.

Halftime: B, 2-0 Goals: (B) Smucker, (B) Harlow, (B) Smucker, (B) Smucker. Assists: (B) Bunch, (B) I Schwab, (B) Tatarkov.

MMH seeking mobile meal volunteer drivers

There are openings for Mennonite Memorial Home Mobile Meal Volunteer Drivers.   Volunteers deliver just one day a month and openings are on the 2nd Wednesday and the 4th Tuesday of each month.  Meals are prepared by The Mennonite Memorial Home and are delivered with-in the Bluffton Village limits.  The delivery starts at 11:30 a.m. and takes approximately 30 – 45 minutes.  If you would like to be a Mobile Meal Driver and serve the Bluffton community, please call Mary Ann Ring, volunteer coordinator, at 419.358.1015, ext 248.

Apache Williams 1940-2015

Apache M. Williams, 75, died on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at 9:09 p.m. at Hardin Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, Kenton.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1940, in Ada, Ohio, to Harry H. and Margurite (McElroy) Williams who preceded her in death.

Apache retired from International Paper in Kenton where she worked in the Quality Dept. She was a member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 Ladies Auxiliary.
