Emmanuel UCC holds worship, carry-in picnic at village park Aug. 16

Emmanuel United Church of Christ  will have a worship service and carry-in picnic at 10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 16, at the village park shelter house by the high school baseball field.

Everyone is welcome. Bring a chair if you would like. Following the picnic there will be games to include all ages. There will also be a pie and cake walk.

It's one of those things we take for granted. All thoses petunias blooming on Main Street. The annual summer project by Stratton Greenhouses is one of things that makes downtown Bluffton come alive.

Hilty cruise-in brings back memories for Pandora native

On July 4, 1936, 79 years ago, Anna Bogart went on a car ride that would change her life.

Today, Anna is a resident at Hilty Home in Pandora, the town where she was born. Before returning to Pandora, she made a life for herself as a nurse, was married and raised two daughters. 

But many of her most cherished memories can be traced back to that single July night when she went on her first date with Gordon Bogart. 

Two weeks ago  Anna was invited by a Hilty Home staff member to enjoy the cruise-In taking place in the Hilty Home  front parking lot.

Shizuo Tachibana to speak at First Mennonite Church

Shizuo Tachibana of Japan will speak about the effects of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton.

Shizuo will share stories of hibakusha, survivors of the A-bomb dropped on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945. Now a teacher at Ha private preschool based on the Steiner method, Shizuo was the first member of the Hiroshima Mennonite Church.

First Mennonite is located at 101 S. Jackson St.
