Kyle Koontz kicks 30-yard field goal in junior high game

Bluffton's Junior High football team defeated Ada 45 to 8 on Oct. 8. A highlight of the game was that Kyle Koontz kicked his first official 30-yard field goal.

Needless to day, Kyle, the team and the crowd were very excited to watch a junior high player achieve this.

This feat is a team effort, as it takes consistent blockers to allow a kicker time to focus on his part of the play.

Community Preschool students discover Suter's pumpkin patch

Students at Bluffton Community Preschool spent some time at Suter's pumpkin patch earlier this month.

• Evey Slechter from the Monday/Wednesday three-year-old class who is delighted with her white pumpkin.

• Levi and Jeremy Mummert from the Tuesday/Thursday three-year-old class enjoying their time.

• A group shot of the children from the Monday/Wednesday three- and four-year-old classes at the close of their wagon ride.

14th annual math competition Nov. 7 at Bluffton Univesity

Bluffton University’s mathematics department will host its 14th annual math competition for high school students on Saturday, Nov. 7, in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall. All of the day’s activities are free.

32nd annual English Festival features author, poet

Dr. April Lindner, a professor and poet who has also updated the Brontë sisters in two novels for young adults, is the guest speaker for Bluffton University’s 32nd annual English Festival on Oct. 20.

In the English Festival Forum, at 11 a.m. that Tuesday in Founders Hall, Lindner will address why so many readers enjoy new versions of old myths and stories. Her talk, titled “Re-Imaginings: Messing with the Classics,” is free and open to the public.

Allen County Visionaries awards go to Clyde Rauch and John Heathy

The Allen County Visionaries presented the Visionary of the Year Awards at their annual dinner Thursday night.

These awards are given to members of the Visionaries and members of the community who have worked to promote economic development and the betterment of our community. All proceeds from the dinner go to fund economic development efforts in Allen County.

The Visionary of the Year Award was presented to Clyde Rauch.

Arts Advocacy Collaborative of West Central Ohio accepting nominees

For the fourth straight year the Arts Advocacy Collaborative of West Central Ohio is looking to once again award members of the area for their contributions to the arts community. Each year three winners are selected under the categories of Creator, Advocate and Philanthropist.

 

The Creator Award is presented to an artist whose work has made a significant impact on his or her discipline and also shows creativity and imagination that exemplifies the highest level of achievement in a particular discipline while advancing the art form.
