Library accepting donations for holiday auction

The Bluffton Public Library is working on its winter holiday gift silent auction, according to Cindi Chasse, library administrator.

The library welcomes silent auction donations from patrons and businesses now through Oct. 12. The third annual holiday gift silent auction begins with an after-hours ticketed preview event on Friday, Nov. 8.

Community meals on Sept. 5 and 19

Two community meals are planned in September at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, under the direction of the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association. 

Meal dates:

• Thursday, Sept. 5, served by Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio
• Thursday, Sept 19, served by St. John's United Church of Christ.

Meals are free and open to the public and begin at 6 p.m. All monetary donations go to the Bluffton Community Assistance Program's food pantry.

St. John's UCC September newsletter posted on Icon

St. John's United Church of Christ, Bluffton, changes from summer hours to fall hours on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to Rev. Carol Clements, pastor.

The new Sunday hours follow:
• Sunday school, 9:30 a.m.
• Worship, 10:30 a.m.

Bluffton Lions will hold five sight screens in September

Bluffton Lions will hold five sight screenings in September. Screenings take place between Sept. 9 and 17. They are held at:

• Bluffton Day Care Center
• Allen East grade school
• Hilty Home Day Care, Pandora
• Bluffton Community Pre-School (two times)

The Lions are involved in several other community activities. To read about those event, open the September newsletter, which is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Bluffton girls blank Ada 7-0

Bluffton's girls' soccer team improved to 2-1 with a 7-0 win over Ada on Aug. 27 at Steinmetz Field.

Halftime: B, 6-0 Goals: (B) Spiridigliozzi, (B) Spiridigliozzi, (B) Spiridigliozzi, (B) Wright, (B) Steinmetz, (B) Steinmetz, (B) Theisen. Assists: (B) Steinmetz (2), (B) Theisen (2), (B) Burkholder, (B) Fredritz.

Shots on Goal: B, 11-4. Corner Kicks: B, 3-1,Saves: B,Barhorst (3); A,goalie (7)

Bluffton dominated the game by scoring six goals in the first half. The Ada defense pushed forward in the second half holding the pirates to one goal in the second half.

Smurfs 2 and Elysium at Shannon Theatre this week

Two movies starting Friday August 30 and playing through Thursday, August 5 at the Shannon Theatre.

SMURFS 2 (PG) will be showing every evening at 7 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

ELYSIUM (R) will be showing every evening at 9:30 p.m.

Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn flavor of the month for September is Caramel Apple.
