Shiloh Hughes wins 5 theatre passes

Shiloh Hughes is the winner of five Shannon Theatre passes. She was the third contestant to enter the contest. The Icon asked viewers to identify the location of the pirate in the photo. It is located above the doorway of room 216 at Bluffton High School.

Free community meal in Pandora on Oct. 30

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free Community Meal on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. 

This month's meal is provided by N.E.W. Never Ending Witness Group. The menu is beef sandwiches, chips, vegetable tray, cheese tray, cookies and beverages.

Here are a few upcoming programs at Bluffton Public Library!

These are just a few of our upcoming programs this October. All of them require registration, both to help the library know how many to set up for and to ensure we have the minimum number required to ensure that our program presenters will be able to hold the program.

"Twas the night before Christmas"

This year's Blaze of Lights theme

"Twas the night before Christmas" is the theme of the 2019 Bluffton Blaze of Lights, according to Paula Scott, CEO of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.

The theme will be carried by downtown store decorations and by floats in this year's Blaze parade. The Blaze takes place Saturday, Nov. 30.

The parade line up is at 4 p.m. on Snider Road near the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool. Junior Weihrauch, Arlington, is the parade director. The deadline for applications accepted for the parade is Saturday, Nov. 16.

ODOT proposing two projects for 2020 in Beaverdam and Lafayette

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1, in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) seeks public comments regarding two proposed projects in the Icon viewership area.

Beaverdam sidewalks  – ODOT, in partnership with the village of Beaverdam, is proposing to construct ADA compliant sidewalks and curb ramps within the village of Beaverdam.

Sidewalks will be installed in various locations along East Main Street, West Street, East Pearl Street, Mill Street, Prospect Street, and Lima Street.

Colleen Hight was a past president of Bluffton Athletic Boosters

Performed with her family's bluegrass band for 15 years

Colleen Rae Hight, 90, died Oct. 10, 2019, in Pandora. Colleen was born July 4, 1929, in Bluffton, Ohio, to the late Walter and Bessie (Emans) Goodman who preceded her in death. On Oct. 7, 1951, she married George Hight who preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2006.

Colleen graduated from Bluffton High School. She was a homemaker and Avon representative. Colleen was a previous president of the Bluffton Athletic Boosters and the Big Rock Gun Club. She enjoyed bowling, camping and cooking.  Colleen also enjoyed playing music and singing in her family's bluegrass band for 15 years.
