283 area youth have an eye check

The Bluffton Lions team conducted their annual eye screening of local children from Sept. 23 through Oct. 1. 

During this time a team of 10 Lions traveled to the Bluffton School kindergarten, Allen East kindergarten, Pandora Hilty Home day care, Bluffton Catholic Church day care, Bluffton Presbyterian Church pre-school and the Bluffton County Line day care. 

In all, 283 children were screened with referrals sent to parents.

Blessing of the animals - all creatures great and small - Saturday AM

Bluffton pet owners are invited a blessing of animals on Saturday, Oct. 5, on the Bluffton Presbyterian Church law, according to Karol Farris Schilling, pastor.

"Join us on the church lawn for a time of socializing and a service of blessing," she said. "Gathering begins at 10 a.m. with a brief service of blessing at 10:30 a.m. concluding by 11 a.m."

Cats, dogs, and others welcome – all animals must be leashed or crated. A pet picture may be brought if preferred. All human attendees can enter to win a special prize at the close of the event.

Mt. Cory United Methodist fall festival Sunday

Mt. Cory Zion United Methodist church hosts the 5th annual Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 2-4 p.m. at the Bethel Family Life Center, 201 West Washington Street, Mt. Cory.

Activities include: games, crafts, snacks, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office K9 demo at 2:30 p.m., clowns, free Romick Train Rides, and a Touch-a-Truck area.  There will also be a silent auction for the two wooden “Moose on the Loose” cut-outs from this year's VBS program.

This is not a typical restaurant review, but the Icon believes this will be of interest to readers.
I had the opportunity to visit New York City for a long weekend with some girlfriends, and while there, ate at Sardi's Restaurant.

Free therapy screens in October

From Northwest Physical Therapy

Northwest Physical Therapy, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, is offering free therapy screens this month.

These screens will be available at all four outpatient locations in Delphos, Ottawa, Bluffton and Lima.

A physical therapy screening takes approximately 10-15 minutes and will be performed by a licensed clinician. A therapy screening helps identify issues that may be causing unnecessary pain.

BVHS develops new Heartburn and Reflux Center

A network of physicians at Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) have recently joined together to establish the Heartburn & Reflux Center of Northwest Ohio. The center will provide comprehensive care to help patients eliminate heartburn and other symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and related disorders.

The center is led by Jessica Reynolds, MD, a general surgeon with Surgical Associates of Northwest Ohio. A “reflux care navigator” will also be available to patients, to assist with ordering and scheduling of tests, appointments and patient follow-ups.
