Velma Kingsley memorial service March 8

A memorial service for Velma Kingsley, who died Dec. 20, 2013, will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 8, at First Mennonite Church. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Jeff Ray celebration of life March 23 in Las Vegas

A celebration of the life, music and legacy of guitarist Jeff Ray, who died Jan. 18, 2014, will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nev.

Featuring performances by Jersey Boys, Dustree Productions, Rock Of Ages and Dance With Me cast members, members of Meat Loaf’s band, Cindy Lora-Renard, Michelle Johnson, Vita Corimbi, Joshua Adams, Skye Dee Miles, Penthouse Suite, Elyse Branch, Bella Electric Strings and other musicians.

C. Henry Smith Peace lecture to focus on the animal kingdom

Dr. Trevor Bechtel, an associate professor of religion at Bluffton University, will focus on the animal kingdom when he presents Bluffton’s annual C. Henry Smith Peace Lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Referencing an actress’s animal interest, Bechtel’s title is “The Already Peaceable Kingdom: Kristen Bell’s sloth fascination as a story of peace-building.” The lecture is free and open to the public.

Alma professor to present women’s studies forum March 11

Dr. Kathryn Blanchard, an associate professor of religious studies at Alma (Mich.) College, will present “Lady Parts: Biblical Women and ‘The Vagina Monologues’” in Bluffton University’s women’s studies forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, in Founders Hall.
