Bluffton Public Library's Services Update

A message from your library

The health and safety of our customers and staff at the Bluffton Public Library is a top priority and the library is working hard to keep services available. The library will review services and update as needed.

Staff are available via phone, email, or social media to answer questions and provide reference services.  Our WiFi is always on, unlocked, and can be accessed in the parking lots and outside the building.

Mennel Milling, on NS Railroad line passing through Bluffton, gets state grant

The Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) last week approved a grant award in the amount of $75,000 to Mennel Milling to expand on-site rail infrastructure needed to accommodate the additional expansion of two of its facilities in Fostoria. 

The railroad through Bluffton has two daily freight trains that travel from Lima to Fostoria. It is not known whether this expansion could increase rail traffic through Bluffton.

Betty Yant was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Yant, 94, died July 17, 2020, at Hilty Memorial Home in Pandora.  Betty was born March 27, 1926, in Lima to the late John and Beatrice (Carder) Huysman.  She had been married to Lawrence "Junior" Yant.  

Betty was a 1944 graduate of St. Gerard's High School in Lima.  She was a homemaker and worked at several other jobs after her children were attending were school.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bluffton.

GROB System apprentice volunteer project

Khyler Scoll of Ada and Alex Black of Van Wert, GROB Systems apprentices, painted fire hydrants in Bluffton on Friday, along with other first-year GROB apprentices. This was this team's third hydrant and they expected to paint a dozen on Friday. Several other GROB apprentice teams are also volunteering in the fire hydrant paint project.

Summer is a great time to explore the art spread across the Bluffton community – especially for viewers unable to visit art galleries elsewhere in Ohio.

As a weekly series, The Icon will feature the art created by John Peter Klassen, a long-time Bluffton College art professor, and his students.

For some viewers, this series is familiar. For others, it may be a first-time experience.

Mask mandate in Bluffton and Allen County in effect at 6 p.m. today

Residents should limit activities as much as possible to reduce their risk of exposure

Bluffton and all Allen County residents are mandated to wear masks in public beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 17, announced Ohio Governor DeWine.

The mandate is a result of Allen County’s upgrade to Red Alert Level 3. 

Risk Level 3 means there is very high exposure and spread. Residents should limit activities as much as possible to reduce their risk of exposure. Residents must follow all current health orders established by Gov. DeWine.
