Mt. Cory Vacation Bible School starts Aug. 8

The Mount Cory and Pleasant View United Methodist churches will host a community Vacation Bible School, August 8-12 at the Mount Cory United Methodist Church, 300 N Main St., Mount Cory. This year's theme is "Adventures on Promise Island.”

Children, ages 4 through 7th grade, are welcome to attend. A pre-registration will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 5:30 - 7 p.m., at the Mount Cory Park during "National Night Out”.

Tickets on sale for BFR-Larson's BBQ brisket fundraiser

Bluffton Family Recreation is selling tickets for a Larson's Barbecue brisket dinner fundraiser.

The dinner is 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.

The fundraiser benefits BFR's indoor arena turf project. Tickets are $9 each and are available while they last.

The dinner includes:
• one-third brisket (sliced)
• Baked beans
• Coleslaw or potato salad
• Dinner roll

St. Mary's church host to Aug. 4 blood drive

Bluffton's next American Red Cross blood drive is from noon to 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The drive is in the church large room at 160 N. Spring St., Bluffton. To schedule an appointment call 800-RED-CROSS  or go to www.redcrossblood.org sponsor code "smccbluff".

High school sports practices officially start Aug. 1

Summer conditioning programs and 10 days of coaching come to an end this weekend as the first official day of practice for all OHSAA fall sports arrives Monday, Aug. 1, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

National Night Out gets bigger each year - here's the plan for Aug. 2

Bluffton’s National Night Out gets bigger and better every year, according to Matt Oglesbee, Bluffton police sergeant.

The Bluffton and Pandora police departments Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, host the third annual night out.

"The purpose of National Night Out is to build strong partnerships between the police departments and the communities they serve so please come and interact with your local officers," Oglesbee told the Icon.
