"I had a flashback the other day when driving down Bluffton's Main Street. I was in the Green Hornet (our 1957 Nash) and pulling into the D&E Sinclair station at the corner of Main and College Avenue, where our public library now stands.

As I pulled up to the gas pump, Dean Nonnamaker, with a big smile on his face, ran out to the car before I could roll down the window.

Pirates win NWC opener over Ada

Bluffton finished the game on a 17-5 run to avoid an upset bid

ADA - Visiting Bluffton finished the game on a 17-5 run to avoid an upset bid by winless local rival Ada and pull out a 55-52 victory in the Northwest Conference boys basketball opener.

The Bulldogs led 47-38 with under six minutes remaining to play after junior Cayden Murphy followed up a miss inside for a basket. 

But then the Pirates began pounding the ball inside to reel off an 11-0 flurry and take a 49-47 lead.

Troubled bridge over cold waters

Repair of the foundation of the Columbus Grove Road bridge over the Little Riley began on Dec. 14. The bridge is expected to be closed for six weeks, affecting traffic patterns in and out of the west side of town.

Doors open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15

Many give-aways in addition to donuts and coffee at Bluffton's Dunkin Donuts

"D Day," or, perhaps "DD Day" begins at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15.

At 0800 hours the long-awaited Dunkin Donuts officially opens, according to Carolyn Dalton, construction manager of the new restaurant at 499 State Route 103.

She said that the shop will have many give-aways in addition to donuts, coffee and the rest of its menu.

She told the Icon that the restaurant has hired 42 employees, ranging from part-time to full-tiime.

Gerri Ziolkowski of Rawson is the store manager.

Bluffton Swim Club wins tri-meet and quad-meet

Opponents include Elida, Lima Senior, Fostoria, Toledo Whitmer

The Bluffton Swim Club open its season with two wins this month.

Dec. 2 with Lima Senior and Toledo Whitmer
The  following student athletes competed for the Bluffton Swim Club; seniors Simon Derstine and Ellie Hoffman, junior Malia Lee, sophmores Landon Armstrong, Sam Derstine, Allison Diller, Nolan Hoffman, CJ McCall, Eric Nygaard and Riley Verb, and freshmen Ella Armstrong, Tyler Cupples, Jacob Lehman and Izzy Stechschulte. 

Landon Armstrong won all three of his events which included the boys 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:18:75.
