Raising safe kids parenting workshop planned this summer

Hey, parents…want some parenting tips?

Bluffton Public Library will offer “ACT – Raising Safe Kids Parenting Workshop,” = this summer.

The free workshops are for parents, guardians and other adults who raise youth from birth to age 8.

Registration is required and the entire series continues over nine sessions, each on Saturday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in June, July and August.

Workshop dates are:
• June 11, 18 and 25
• July 16, 23 and 30
• August 6, 13 and 20

Chrome, fins, grills come to Bluffton June 17 - it's the 49th annual Wheels Fest'

This is part of the Icon’s features on events taking place in Bluffton during the month of June.

The 49th Bluffton Festival of Wheels cruise-in, sponsored by the Bluffton Lions  hits Main Street  on Friday, June 17.

The event is open to antique cars, classic cars, trucks, tractors, golf carts, fire engines, motorcycles and Cushmans.

This year’s show opens for parking at 2 p.m. and registration for vehicles is from 2 to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

Hatching as we speak

Here's something fun from the Bluffton Public Library, which started earlier this month. In anticipation of the birth of staff member Esther Birkey's baby, the library is also incubating eggs. It's a project not often viewed in a library, but as we know, the Bluffton Public Library is always ahead of the game.

Community meals on June 2 and June 16

Two community meals take place in June at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St. Those meals are Thursday, June 2, provided by English Lutheran Church, and Thursday, June 16, provided by First Mennonite Church.

Community meals are free and open to the public and are coordinated by the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association. Persons attending may contribute canned food items for the Bluffton food pantry.

Lynn LaRue entertains Seniors with his harmonica on June 13

Bluffton Senior Citizens will hold its June meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, June 13, at the Senior Center, 132 N. Main St.

The program is by Lynn LaRue, a new member of the Association, who will entertain members on the harmonica.

The meal is catered by the St. John's United Church of Christ. Tickets are $8.50 each and must be purchased by June 8 at the center.

Here's Apollo Career Center's May 26 board agenda

Contracts for 2016-17 school year are a major item on the Thursday, May 26, Apollo Career Center school board agenda.

One of those items to be considered is the hiring of  Karen Falk, Family and Consumer Science instructor for the 2016-17 school year, on the Bluffton salary schedule and fringe benefits following the Bluffton school calendar.
