Girls' soccer: BHS stays unbeaten in NWC

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton soundly defeated Delphos Jefferson 4-1 in Northwest Conference girls soccer action Monday night at Steinmetz Field.

The comeback win upped the Lady Pirate record to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0 in NWC play, good for a first-place tie. In their last five matches, the red-hot Pirate girls have posted four wins and one tie.

The Lady Wildcats fell to 1-5-1 and 0-2-1 in the NWC with the defeat.

Laykin Garmatter netted two goals to pace Bluffton to victory.

NORTH BALTIMORE - The visiting Bluffton volleyball team swept North Baltimore handily to register their fourth consecutive win in a non-league match Monday night. 

The Lady Pirate spike squad lifted its record to 6-2 with the convincing 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 victory.  

Kylie Stackhouse topped the Pirate girls with 17 kills and one block. Taylor Schwab knocked down 11 kills, and also contributed seven digs to go with a pair of aces.

Bluffton and Richland Township have very high census response rates

Bluffton and Richland Township residents have registered impressive responsive rates to the 2020 U.S. Census.

As of Sept. 13, according to the U.S. reports, the Village of Bluffton’s response rate is 81.3 percent. That places Bluffton as the 88th highest response of 928 cities and village in Ohio.

The village response is even more impressive when considering that the top village and city rate in Ohio is a response rate of 88.6 percent.

Enrollment grows at Bluffton University

Total full time enrollment of 726, which includes adult and graduate studies, is also up

Bluffton University’s undergraduate enrollment numbers are on the rise for the 2020-21 academic year.

A solid incoming class combined with successful retention efforts account for a 21-student increase over 2019-20 enrollment. 

Bluffton’s first-year class includes 195 students. Thirty-one percent are considered American minority, a 7 percent increase over last year’s incoming class.

Total full time enrollment of 726, which includes adult and graduate studies, is also up by 25 students.
