Family Space Camps at your local library

Bluffton Public Library is offering Family Space Camp for families with kids, ages kindergarten through 12th grade, to come learn about life in space on Friday, June 28 at 1 p.m. 

Registration is required.

Derek Dukes wa a popular attraction during Saturday's Shirley's downtown birthday party. Derek sat in the dunk tank for a time, and judging by the distance between the bull's eye and the pitching mound, Derek took several dunks during the morning. Relay for Hope pie auction generates $1,438 for American Cancer Society

Pitty goes out to Daniel Tinch and Jesse Blackburn. They had to judge 26 pies in Relay for Hope pie contest. The event concluded with a pie auction that generated $1,438 – at nearly $40 per pie– to the American Cancer Society.

• First place - April Dorman of Bluffton, rhubarb meringue
• Second place - Kathy Smith of Arlington, peach-mango
• Third place - Mikayla Norway of Arlington, mixed berry

Dave Warren was the auctioneer. Prizes were donated by Findlay's Whirlpool, Thrivent Financial and the Trenton Avenue Wal-Mart.

Steinmetz and Pinks one and two in 5K

83 runners in Saturday's run/walk for literacy

Bluffton High School grads Jackson Steinmetz and Tanner Pinks were first and second in the Shirley’s Popcorn and Friends of the Bluffton Public Library run/walk for literacy held on June 22.

The first female runner to finish was Michelle Stein of Lima, who was fifth overall. Her time was 22:09.7

Steinmetz won the 5K in a 17:25.5 with Pinks coming in second at 17:48.3. Eighty-three runners competed.
