Lima Rotary Club receives donation for Abilities Ball Field

Andy and Elaine Maravola presented a $1,000 check to the Abilities Ball Field at the July 6 Lima Rotary Club meeting.

The Maravolas coordinated the Charity Car Show at Westgate Entertainment Center on June 28 and the donation is a portion of the $6,500 raised for charity by the show. Nearly 400 cars were entered.

"This is helping us reach our goal to make the dream a reality. We appreciate that they have chosen the Abilities Field as one of their charities to receive this donation," said fundraising coordinator Tracie Sanchez.

Letter: Thanks to Cindy Basinger and Susie Stratton for BFR spruce up

Icon viewers:

Bluffton Family Recreation would like to thank Cindy Basinger of Backyard Perennials & More and Susie Stratton of Stratton Greenhouses for the plants they donated to the “Spruce Up” project at BFR.

Cindy donated a beautiful coral-bells plant and Susie donated a delightful flat of annuals.  We have had some trouble with the geese and ducks playing havoc with our plantings but we are enjoying the beautiful colors the plants have added to BFR’s landscape.

Thank you Cindy and Susie!

One half century ago on Main Street

It's January 1965. Dick Boehr took this photo of the Stauffer Brother's Pure Oil station at the corner of Main and Elm - directly across from the town hall.

We can't read the gas pumps, but that leaded gas was around 33 cents a gallon.

Today a different building stands there, housing Smith Realty, Padrone's Pizza and Ameriprise.

Here are several observations about this photo and Icon viewers are invited to offer more thoughts.
