The Inn at ONU hosts speakeasy cabaret

A speakeasy comes to Ada on Saturday, Sept. 28, and you are invited.

The Inn at ONU hosts a speakeasy cabaret from 7 to 9 p.m. offering a chance to travel back in time to the Roaring 1920s Prohibition era.

The evening includes appetizers, sparkling beverages and the sound of gold age jazz standards performed by the ONU Musical Theatre Class of 2020.

Tickets are $35 per guest. Reservation are required and seating is limited. To reserve your seat, call The Inn at 419-772-4112. A portion of the proceeds benefit the ONU musical theatre class.

BCE Thursday workshop: Working with college interns

Session includes discussion with university business studies faculty

The Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs (BCE) is holding a brown bag discussion on working with college interns.

The session will be from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, on the third floor of Bluffton town hall, 154 N. Main St..

Melissa Green and Jason Swartzlander of the Bluffton University Department of Business Studies will lead a discussion about providing internships for college students.

“Student interns can be a valuable part of your team,” said Paula Scott, Executive Director of the BCE, “and we’ll help you prepare to make the most of the opportunity.”

Jean Szabo, Carrie Woodruff recognized at this year's university homecoming

Faculty/Staff Service Award and Professional Achievement Award recipients

Jean Szabo and Carrie Ream Woodruff will be recognized during Bluffton Univesity's homecoming in October.

Their recognition take place Saturday, Oct. 12, during the President' banquet. During the event, alumni and faculty who have reached milestones of achievement, service and giving are recognized. 

This year, alumni awards will be presented to Jean Szabo, Faculty/Staff Service Award and to Carrie (Ream) Woodruff, Professional Achievement Award.

Silent auction underway now at Mennonite Home

The Bluffton community’s 16th annual Fall Festival, with many family-oriented activities, takes place throughout the community on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Each day this week the Icon features one of the locations in the festival.

Here's what's happening at Mennonite Memorial Home
410 W. Elm St.

• A silent auction is now underway at the Mennonite Memorial Home.It continues until noon on Saturday.

• A bake sale is Friday, Sept. 27, and Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Local United Way reorganization, planning meeting Wednesday evening

The United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township wil hold a reorganizational and planning meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Bluffton elementary school, according to Neil Reichenbach, treasurer.

The campaign for 2018-2019 ending on Aug. 31, 2019, is 90.91% of its goal. 

The United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township raised $24,092 of the $26,500 goal, said Reichenbach, thankings donors for their support.
