Local organizations participate in Fall Prevention Awareness event

The Area Agency on Aging 3 will host an event to promote Falls Prevention Awareness Day on Monday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. at the Area Agency on Aging 3, 2423 Allentown Road, Lima,  next to Tom Ahl and across from Walmart.

Several community partners, including two Ada and one Bluffton organizations, will participate to educate, increase awareness, and help provide resources on falls and fall prevention for our older adults.

Carol Shapter funeral arrangements incomplete

Carol A. Shapter, 74, of Bluffton died Sept. 19, 2019, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Bluffton schools open house Monday

The Bluffton Schools will hold a district-wide open house on Monday evening, Sept. 23.  The elementary school will be open from 6-7 p.m., the middle school from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., and the high school from 7-8 p.m.

Several community organizations will have booths set-up in the elementary gymnasium and information will be available on ways to provide support to the school and community. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will be offering baked goods for donations in the elementary gymnasium, as a fundraiser.

Emergency Medicine Residency Program receives initial accreditation

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center newly developed emergency medical center has received its initial accreditation.

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a three-year program and is approved for a total of 18 accredited resident positions. Medical student candidates will be able to apply in the fall 2019 and St. Rita's will participate in the 2020 National Resident Matching Program. The first class of six residents will start July 1, 2020.

$142,020 watershed grant will help Lower Riley Creek

It's another grant coming to Bluffton

Blanchard River Watershed Partnership receives a $142,020 grant for the “Innovative Use of the Nutrient Tracking Tool in the Lower Riley Creek watershed.”

The Great Lakes Commission has awarded the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership (BRWP) a $142,020 grant under the Great Lakes Sediment and Nutrient Reduction Program (GLSNRP).

Cincinnati poet to read at Bluffton University

Poet Matt Hart will give a public reading at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Marbeck Center’s Kreider Room at Bluffton University.

Hart is the author of “Radiant Action,” “Radiant Companion,” and several other collections of poetry. His awards include a Pushcart Prize, a 2013 individual artist grant from The Shifting Foundation and several fellowships. Additionally, he is cofounder and the editor-in-chief of “Forklift, Ohio: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking and Light Industrial Safety.”

Hart lives in Cincinnati where he teaches at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
