Happy winter birthday to Tim Pannabecker

Imagine having an August birthday celebrated in the winter.

Bluffton native, Tim Pannabecker, now resident of New Zeeland, did that since August below the equator is in its winter season. His birthday was Aug. 1.

Here’s what he said about it on his Facebook:

“Thanks for all the birthday wishes....on my first winter birthday.

“I took time to think of each of you who wrote, often thinking back to how and where we met. Was a good exercise -- and I'm thankful for each of you.

Robert Weyer, 1991 - 2016

Robert Weyer, 25, died on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at 3:30 a.m.

He was born on May 25, 1991, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Robert B. Weyer and Rachelle (Hoff) Benfield. His father survives in Ada and his mother and  step-father, William Benfield, also survive in Ada.

Robert worked at the Lowe’s Distribution Center, Findlay. He was a 2010 graduate of Ada High School.

Pleasant View Church of Brethren lawn social Aug. 4

Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, 4950 N. Thayer Road, will hold a chicken barbecue lawn social this week.

The event is 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, and is open to the public.

Barbara Young 1934 - 2016

Barbara "Barb" D. Young, 82, died July 29, 2016, at 9:10 p.m. at her residence.  Barb was born March 3, 1934 in Lima to the late Lloyd and Gertrude (Jordan) Leigh.  On Feb. 13, 1975 she married Robert "Peewee" Young who preceded her in death on May 21, 2004.

Barb was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering at the Et Cetera Shop and Richland Manor.

Bluffton's block party

Here's a view from last year's National Night Out town block party at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool. This scene will be repeated Tuesday evening as lots of events take place including free swimming, free food, an opportunity to meet Bluffton police, fire and EMS and a fireworks show at dusk.

Tuesday - get ready for a big community party at the swimming pool!

Bluffton’s National Night Out gets bigger and better every year, according to Matt Oglesbee, Bluffton police sergeant.

The Bluffton and Pandora police departments Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, host the third annual night out.

"The purpose of National Night Out is to build strong partnerships between the police departments and the communities they serve so please come and interact with your local officers," Oglesbee told the Icon.
