Bluffton girls overpower Lima Central Catholic

Pirates enter tournament with 12-10 overall record

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton dominated former conference rival Lima Central Catholic 49-30 in a girls basketball bout Thursday night to end the regular season on a high note.

The Lady Pirates led 11-5 after the first period of play on the strength of two Kylie Monday triples. 

Six Kylie Stackhouse points in the second stanza helped the Pirates secure a 24-14 intermission margin.

The Pirate girls led 32-21 heading to the final period of play.

FROM ADA ICON - Steve Arnold and Brian Clum go way back.

"We met in Kindergarten at Allen East," laughs Brian.

Mrs. Dickey was their teacher that year, and it was 1974-75. They played T-ball together and were in Lafayette Cub Scout Pack 11 together.

Spending each high school year together, Steve was Brian’s best man in Brian and Kelly’s wedding in 1990.

As they went their own paths, they stayed in touch. And, this winter their paths crossed again.

The Bluffton University volleyball team again pulled a rabbit out of its hat on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Trailing two sets to one and down 24-22 in the fourth set, the Beavers rallied for a 27-25 victory and then plastered Manchester 15-4 in the clincher. Bluffton used that momentum to sweep the visiting Spartans (25-20, 25-16 and 25-13) in the nightcap as the Beavers improved to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the Heartland Conference.
