Keeping Active free programs in final week at BFR

The last events and free wellness programs are being offered this week at BFR Sports & Fitness, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director.

The schedule includes free fitness classes, walking days, plus demonstrations in the fitness center and an informational session about sports nutrition.

Older adults are invited to attend the Thurs. Feb. 2t session of Strength & Flex at 10 am.  The Strength & Flex class is led by Jackie Frey and includes chair-based yoga movements for flexibility plus chair-based weight training.

The YogaFit  class is also offered free on Friday, Feb. 22 at 8:30 am and on Wed. Feb. 27 at 6:30 pm. Susan Sheehan is the instructor for the morning class; Chris Setzer is the instructor for the evening session that is held at the Bluffton Library. YogaFit is a fitness class based on the movements of yoga and is held by candlelight to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Free use of the indoor track will be available during all building hours on Sun. Feb. 24, Mon. Feb. 25, Thurs. Feb. 28, and Fri. March 1. Men are invited to join the noontime basketball group on Fri. Feb. 22 from 12-1 pm.

Youth (ages 5 to 12 years) are invited to a free session of dodgeball on Friday, March 1 from 3:30-4:30 pm. Dodgeball is offered every Friday after school for drop-in or on a session basis. Individuals (14 years and older) who are curious about using fitness center equipment are welcome to an open session on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10-11 am.

Jessica Ladd, BFR's Wellness Coordinator, will be on hand to give an overview of the equipment and work with individuals on their
fitness goals.

Bluffton University dietetics graduate students will "test" area middle school and high school athletes about their nutrition on Wed. Feb. 20 from 4:30-5 pm. Using a Jeopardy format, youth will be asked about eating during sports seasons. This session is scheduled during the free soccer session from 3:30-5 pm on that day. Making Sense of Food Labels is the
theme for the Tues. Feb. 26 informational session at 9am (part of the Silver Sneakers breakfast).

Graduate students, Megan Shelby and Sara Spurgeon will help decode food label information. Spurgeon, a graduate of Ball State University, is from Ft. Wayne, Indiana.  Shelby is from Jackson, Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University.
